The East West Rail Alliance was established in 2015 to deliver East West Rail Phase 2 (EWR2), connecting communities and businesses between Bicester and Bedford, and Milton Keynes and Aylesbury, providing passengers with much improved cross-country rail links.
The Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) for EWR2 was approved by the Secretary of State for Transport and came into force on 25th February 2020, this now allows the EWR Alliance to start main construction works.

Sellafield has been nearly 80 years in the making. A pioneer for the UK’s nuclear industry, it supported national defence, generated electricity for nearly half a century, and developed the ability to safely manage nuclear waste. Sellafield covers 6 square kilometres and is home to more than 200 nuclear facilities and the largest inventory of untreated nuclear waste in the world.
Today we are faced with the challenge of cleaning-up the legacy of the site’s early operations, including some of the most hazardous nuclear facilities in Europe
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) plays a vital role in supporting our Armed Forces by building, maintaining and servicing the infrastructure that the men and women who serve our country need to live, work, train and deploy on operations.
DIO is responsible for managing £3.25 billion annual investment into the defence estate in the UK and overseas, and manages an estate valued at circa £35 billion. It does this through a range of term, framework, PFI and other supply contracts that make DIO one of the largest contracting organisations in Government.
Network Rail owns, operates and develops Britain’s railway infrastructure
That’s 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We manage 20 of the UK’s largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are managed by the country’s train operating companies.
Our Vision – Putting passengers first
We’re becoming a company that is on the side of passengers and freight users; that is easy to engage with and is an efficient and dependable partner; a company people are proud to work for; instinctively recognised as an industry leader.
The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) champions infrastructure to government and other stakeholders, representing the views of around 430 members, large and small. Our members employ over 60,000 in UK and 250,000 worldwide, contributing more than £15 billion to the UK economy. They have worked on some of our most high-profile infrastructure to date: Crossrail, Thames Tideway, HS1 & 2, the Queensferry Crossing and Heathrow Terminals 2/3 and 5.
We’re one of the biggest public procurement organisations in Europe. Transport for the North
We are England’s first Sub-national Transport Body. We were formed to transform the transport system across the North of England, providing the infrastructure needed to drive economic growth.
As a partnership, we bring the North’s 20 local transport authorities and business leaders together with Network Rail, Highways England, and HS2 Ltd, and work with Central Government. We enable the North to speak with one voice on the transport infrastructure investment needed to drive transformational growth and rebalance the UK economy.
We will not replace or replicate the work of existing local transport bodies. Our role is to add strategic value by ensuring that funding and strategy decisions about transport in the North are informed by local knowledge and requirements. This fits with the devolution agenda and we will draw powers down from central government rather than up from local government.
